No one wants to get into an accident, but being prepared for the unexpected is a smart thing to do. Is your car ready? Do you have the things you need in an unexpected situation? Keep reading for ideas you can use to get your auto ready for anything!
Accidents
None of us want to be in one, but many of us have been in at least one accident. There are a few things to keep in your car to be ready for an accident. Better to be prepared and not need to use them, than to not have what you need when you want.
The first thing that you need is to be able to find your important documents. The best way to do this is to have a consistent spot where you keep things like insurance and registration papers.
Next, have a way to document the accident easily. Check out the Collision kit by All Buttoned Up. They give you a great compact kit that you can keep in your glove box.
Emergencies
In my area, it is past time to be ready for SNOW! We've been hit with crazy levels of ice and snow already. Maybe you are in an area where that is not an issue, but you may have environmental situations that I don't.
Know the factors for your area and be ready for them. Make an emergency bag and keep it in your trunk. Purchase a medium sized duffel bag and put the following in it:
- jump cables
- blanket,
- non-perishable snacks,
- drinking water,
- flares,
- flashlight,
- jumper cables,
- jack,
- oil,
- de-icer
- ice scraper,
- work gloves
- winter gloves and scarf
- etc.
Personal/Medical Needs
The types of things that you need to keep in your car that are personal/medical related will vary depending on how you use your car. I purchased a simple men's shaving bag that I keep in the center console of my Accord. Here are some of the items that I have assembled:
- Band aids – travel pack of varying sizes
- Single packets of ointment
- Nail clippers
- Travel hair spray
- Tylenol
- Advil
- Children's Motrin (for my 7-year-old)
- Pen and pencil
- Sweetner (I like sweet tea!)
- Ziplock of plain Cheerios
- Power bar – just in case I cannot get to food
- Extra nylons
- Hand sanitizer
Business Needs
Now, this topic heading might not be one that you would think of when you think of auto prep, but it is an important one for me. I purchased a Sterilite locking container for the trunk of my car. I love this container because it is water proof, but very easy to access when I need it. Here is what I keep in it:
- Business cards
- Brochures
- Pen
- Index Cards – so I can take a fast note
- Note cards – for writing quick thank yous
- Any special fliers I'm using at the time
