Consider this Situation

You are swamped. You are having difficulty getting things done that are already on your plate, when a good colleague contacts you about an organization that means a lot to you. They are planning a fund-raising event and would like you to participate. You know that you really cannot take on any more.

Which one would you choose? This is a really important organization to you. It will really disappoint your colleague if you say that you cannot participate.

Is it possible to really live a life that is stress free and focused on what matters? It is! But you have to be willing to make some choices along the way. How do you even know if you are focusing correctly? How do you know that you are defining things the “right” way.

You cannot live your priorities if you don’t know what they are. A few days ago I talked about one way to think about priorities, but today, I’d like to share a different way you can work through the process.

Best selling author and time management pro, David Allen, talks about different “horizons” of focus. The horizons are the different ways we can look at what we do and how we determine what those things are.

So many people, when they think of clutter, think of piles of stuff laying all over the place, but we can clutter up our schedules and life choices too. As you are determining your goals, start with identifying your priorities. If your goals are not aligned with the things that are truly important to you, then, what is the point? I realize that sounds simplistic, but for many it is an exercise that really helps.

I frequently have people ask me how I can get it all done and that I must never sleep. Now, admittedly, my sleeping patterns are a bit odd because I am a stay-up-late kind of gal, but that is not how I manage to grow my business and get a lot done in the community I live in.
