10+ Simple Steps to Build Well-Being

10+ Simple Steps to Build Well-Being

I've mentioned in a few posts about how I'm stretching myself (literally) by taking yoga classes a few days a week.

The other day, I spotted a note on the bulletin board of the studio.  The title was “To Build Well-Being, Be Sure To” and then it listed 10 things that you can do.

I was curious what other people thought of this list, so I snapped a picture of it and put it on some of my networks, and asked!

Today, I'll share that simple list of 10 as well as what my friends shared as their reactions to the list.

What My Friends Shared When I Asked

Terry Noel Looks pretty doggone good to me. The only thing I would add is “Scare yourself daily by taking on something audacious.”

Ed Vayn  +Stephanie Calahan Very good list! I would add spending time with positive, supportive people regularly is important, imho. Also achieving balance between virtual and real communication (e.g. limiting virtual if it is out of balance when spending most of time in virtual world).

Adela Rubio Give and get hugs. Physical touch is essential for well being and nourishes our sense of being loved and cared for and our ‘urge to merge.'  Being present would include all of the above, because then you'd be in touch with your own knowing and you'd know what ‘to do.'

Anonymous Friend  I don't think I would deal well with this list: too many “to do's”. I wouldn't get past #1, then I would stress about that. Here's my one-word list: LOVE. It may sound cheesy, but if you love The Lord your God, love your neighbor (everyone God has placed in your life, from a beloved child to a dreaded co-worker), and love yourself, it all falls into place. Then I don't have to stress about whether or not I have practiced relaxation techniques: I just LOVE. It really covers a multitude of sins.

What Do You Think?

Does this list look good to you, or would you add, remove, change anything?

To your easy and joyful success!

  1. Love this list! I am especially on board with getting rest! A good night’s sleep can help you take set backs in stride and make it easier to stretch too!

I would add that when I want to stretch, I usually add in a partner to help me. That person would already be accomplished at whatever my stretch is and help me short cut through the tough parts.

    1. Hi Ellen! Great to see you here today. Rest is one of my #1 strategies for a lot of things.

Love that you suggest a partner for stretching. That is good advice for a physical or mental stretching.

  2. Love ’em all and agree with Adela about “give & get hugs.”
However, I’m surprised the list doesn’t include “BREATHE” – seems like it would be the first thing a yoga studio might post. 🙂

    1. Excellent point Debra! Taking consistent time to BREATHE is really important. Your comment reminds me of back when I was working in Corporate America. I was so stressed out back then! I had an alarm set on my Palm Pilot at 1:00 PM every day that just said “breathe.” It made a huge difference.
