Sometimes the Plan Needs to Change, Even When it Was a Good One

Sometimes the plan needs to change, even when it was a good one.

Twenty years ago my flower bed was completely filled with weeds.

I had a dream of a butterfly 🦋 garden that I could enjoy from my office window. One filled with color.

The space has been cultivated for several years. We planted. We nurtured. We were patient.
And it worked. Sort of.

The space was full sun when we started, but over time, the tree in our backyard has grown taller than our two-story home. Now, half of the flower bed is in the shade. The side that gets sun is bursting with color.

The side I see every day from my office window? Quiet. Green. No blooms. (Picture 4)

Is it a failure? No!

It just needs a different plan for a different environment.

The pollinators still come. The original intention is working well.

But if I want color where I can see it. I need to plant something new. I need to find more shade loving flowering plants to give me color to love when I look out my window. (If you have suggestions for what might work in Illinois, let me know.)

The same is true in business.
You can have a beautiful plan that starts strong.
Your intention is clear.
You put in the effort.
You cultivate and care.

But then the landscape changes.
Your market shifts.
Your energy shifts.
Your offers, your team, your priorities evolve.

And suddenly, what once worked…just doesn’t anymore.

Not because you failed, but because the conditions changed.

That doesn’t mean starting over.

It means adjusting the design. Choosing new strategies that thrive in your current season.
Honoring what worked and giving yourself permission to adapt.

Whether you’re navigating internal shifts, external growth, or just a craving for something more meaningful, it’s ok to pivot.

I help leaders like you “replant” with precision.
What you create next doesn’t just work.
It feels like home when you look out your window.

If this sounds like something you want to explore, you know where to find me.

To your easy and joyful success!
Stephanie
