Have you been considering a product or program launch? Today, I'll share another Product/Program Promotion: Problems and Profits — Launching Lessons Learned.
Keep reading for my interview with Cena Block — the Mom-Preneur Clarity Catalyst, author of Getting It All Done and Time To Toss It. Cena presents signature workshops and privately coaches professional women in transition and moms-on-pause who struggle manage their time, systems, and spaces while juggling all the pieces for their busy families.
We'll be discussing what she learned as she launched her 5-week Group Coaching Program.
Hello and welcome! It’s nice to have you with us Cena. This publication is for entrepreneurs and independent professionals (coaches, authors, speakers, etc.) and I know they love to hear stories from the trenches. Thank you for your willingness to share some of your mistakes and lessons learned so that others could benefit!
What were you promoting?
I used a free teleseminar to promote my 5-week Group Coaching Program: AWAKE: Manage Your Time To Love Your Life!
What did you do that went well in your launch promotion?
Many things! My program announcements, tweets, and social media posts had more than 75 people enrolled the free teleseminar… So I’d say that’s pretty great. I also guest appeared on a few different people’s telecalls and held two live events that helped spread the word. I also belong to some pretty great online communities that helped me spread the word!
I tend to wing things since I’ve been a presenter and professional speaker for so long.. But I did want this to go very well so I took the time to script out several pieces of my presentation to be sure it was delivered well.
Also, for the group coaching program, I was very happy that I had created redundancies so that when the breakdown occurred I was able to recover within one minute!
What didn’t go so well and what were your lessons learned? I’m looking for you to share the ugly so people can learn from it.
The thing that was the worst for me was postponing for so long… I had wanted to start hosting telecalls and teleseminars for years before I actually did one! I was waiting to ‘figure it all out’ – that probably can loosely translate into a HUGE miss in terms of business opportunities, potential clients, joint venture opportunities and professional development.
I'm so glad that you shared that perspective Cena! I see many brilliant entrepreneurs that let fear hold them back from sharing their knowledge with the world. Helping them unleash their brilliance is one of my passions! When you wait you miss so many opportunities. Did you have any other lessons learned?
During the group coaching program – my web event meeting system dropped my PowerPoint slides. I also found that I had to create content as I went, and this took a lot longer than I had planned for!
I am happy that I had the slides already provided for my attendees so those who had downloaded them already were able to follow along without the slides.
You raised a couple of great points. One of the best ways to create a program that is a great fit to your audience is to create it as you go. (I know there are many that would freak out about this, but the best programs really are created this way!)
Your redundant system of sending the powerpoints to your group was a great way to handle the potential problem.
As a business owner, what is one of the biggest challenges you have faced and what did you do about it? Any big lessons learned?
I think the biggest thing I faced with this was postponing doing anything for so long until I figured it all out! My advice is to launch and learn!
Secondly I have faced not wanting to play a bigger game because I was stopped by not knowing HOW to do everything – the trick is that as soon as I committed to doing it – The way how showed up! Listen to your heart to guide you in your business.
We can’t have an interview here and not talk about productivity! How do you and your team stay on track?
I use a number of different tools, systems, processes and support people to help us stay on track! Bi-monthly meetings, Asana task management and planning tools help us communicate clearly, divide responsibilities, and support each other.
Do have any future projects you’d like to tell us about?
I am now promoting the solo/mompreneur’s Plan-a-paloozah! It will launch on December 7, 2012. I would invite anyone who is a solo or small business owner to check out this day event to get your business all planned and ready for 2013! http://sanespaces.com/planapaloozah/
Thanks for sharing your story Cena!
