I find the great thing in this world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving. To reach the port of heaven, we must sail sometimes with the wind and sometimes against it, — but we must sail, and not drift, nor lie at anchor.
~Oliver Wendell Holmes~
So often we get lost in the details and analysis of what we ought to do that we forget to take action. There are many quotes from brilliant people on this subject.
What direction are you moving? Is it the same one as yesterday? Is it the same one as a year ago? If so, were those directions serving you well then? Do they serve you well now, or are you a-drift? If you are not heading in a direction that you like, maybe it is time to take action and change the direction of your sails.
We are face to face with our destiny and we must meet it with high and resolute courage. For us is the life of action, of strenuous performance of duty;
let us live in the harness, striving mightily;
let us rather run the risk of wearing out than rusting out.
~Theodore Roosevelt~
At a time when the US was facing an extremely difficult time, Roosevelt encouraged everyone to do what they needed to do to take action. Sometimes when you are faced with things or activities that are scary, it is important to think about the alternatives. I don't know about you, but “rusting out” is not the way I want to go.
Things won are done, joy's soul lies in the doing.
~Shakespeare~
A rolling stone can gather no moss.
~Publilius Syrus~
These quotes inspire me to focus on moving forward even when I don't want to. What helps you? Have a quote on action that keeps you moving? I'd love to hear it.
