Today's visibility tip is a really fast one. When was the last time you took a complete look at your
- Facebook personal profile
- Facebook business page
- Twitter profile
- LinkedIn profile
- YouTube profile
- Pinterest profile
- Instagram profile
- Google places description
- Profiles on forums you participate on
- Other social media and web presence that you have
Often, when we are setting up accounts we write a quick bio and then forget about it. Then, time marches on and the information that we put into our Twitter bio back in 2008 when we joined is so not what we do today! Don't let that happen to you. It sends confusing messages about what you do and who you are.
Take 10 minutes and look at all of your social media profiles
Are yours current and accurate?
Is your profile picture current and consistent across the profiles?
Are you using keywords so that others can find you easily?
Link to Your Site
As you are updating your bio and pictures consider adding a clickable link to a page on your website that has a specific call to action or gives your visitor an overview of your site and what you have to offer. You might link them to your About page, a special invitation page, a Start Here page, your Products page, or a page that you have designed for visitors from that site.
Here is the html code to use in your bio to create a clickable link:
<a title=”WHAT VIEWER SEES WHEN THEY HOVER OVER THE LINK” href=”YOUR URL with HTTP://” target=”_blank”>WHAT THE VIEWER WILL SEE</a>
Here is what my About Page link code would look like:
<a title=”About Stephanie Calahan” href=”https://www.stephaniecalahan.com/about-stephanie-lh-calahan-the-business-vision-catalyst/” target=”_blank”>About page</a>
Example: About page
Bonus Tip
As you are updating your Facebook accounts, make sure your Facebook profile links to your Facebook business page.

Hi Debra – It’s a good idea to schedule this at least annually to make sure that you are on track and consistent with your messaging.

Great reminder since I have rebranded slightly and have a book coming out! I get to add author to my profiles now!
Stephanie LH Calahan says
Absolutely Tai! I am going through the process of finding every profile I have and updating as well. Congrats on your book!
Eric Deeter says
Thanks for the reminder, Stephanie. I’m like Tia; I have a book coming out. I must adjust my profiles.
Stephanie LH Calahan says
Congrats on the new book Eric! Glad this post was a good reminder for you. What’s your book about?
Harriet Stack says
A good reminder, thank you.
Stephanie LH Calahan says
You are most welcome. Thank you for stopping by my site and I hope to see you again.

Is it really necessary to use the same profile pic across all sites? I do, but just curious how it would impact your visibility.
Stephanie LH Calahan says
Jennifer – That is a great question! Using the same picture across all of your platforms is not necessary, but it is strategically sound.
When you use the same picture across platforms you make it easier for people to recognize you.
Would you recognize a Nike shirt as much if they chose to put different symbols on their clothing? The “swoosh” on every product they make is repeated over and over. Even if you’re not a big sportswear person (I’m not), you still recognize the Nike symbol if you see it.
In general, people will remember imagery more than names.
I suggest that you use the same image on your social media, website and even business cards! It draws our online and offline worlds together and makes us more memorable. We become “visible.”

Great suggestions Stephanie 🙂
Stephanie LH Calahan says
Glad you dropped by Barbara. It’s good to see you here.

Stephanie, great tips and advice. I do periodically check my social media sites and update accordingly. I’ve been doing this more so probably in the last 6 months. I do use the same picture across; except one facebook pic and that has me on the radio. Maybe I should change it back:-) I do need to check out those sites I’m not on much and reevaluate. I think I’ll put a quarterly task to do this review across the web. Thanks for the reminders.
Stephanie LH Calahan says
A quarterly reminder is a great idea!
Kimberly Eldredge says
Excellent reminder! I’ve actually got this “housekeeping” work built in to my to do list for early Q2 2014. And I’m planning on making it a quarterly task just like de-junking my filing cabinet and getting the dog groomed!
Stephanie LH Calahan says
Yes! Great plan. Live the other things you have on that list too.
Kimberly Eldredge says
Soooo, I thought of something else to add to your list:
Email signature and the message on your voicemail! Speaking of both: don’t forget to take a look at any autoresponders or welcome messages as well.
Stephanie LH Calahan says
Great addition!
